As the world came together to demonstrate support for environmental protection on Earth Day, April 22nd, our Global Fellow from Cameroon, Alexander Gwanvalla, inspired a group of 21 farmers in Pinyin (North West Region of Cameroon). Together with the group leader, Nadege Mbuh Metsime, Alexander organized famers to commemorate Earth Day by holding an awareness event.

The event entailed discussions about environmental conservation and group’s plan for more sustainable gardening and crop farming activities. The group’s theme for this year’s Earth Day, Thank you Mother Earth, We Are Inseparable, is a reminder to us all to be grateful of life and constantly strive to live in harmony with nature.

Alexander runs a farmers collective organization called “Community Green Engagement Cameroon.” They are currently developing a project called Ngemba Smallholder Poultry, an organic farming project for the marginalized farmers. The project’s goal is to produce and market 3,000 broilers yearly through capacity building of 180 farmers on organic farming and broiler production techniques. Alexander hopes to keep us posted as the project evolves, they are currently seeking funds that would allow the project to start.
